The Beginings of a Website

by csantos79 on 01/03/2010

One of the most asked questions when one plans to build a website is when is the right time to begin marketing a website. The true answer to that is entirely up to you. The average time it takes to complete a website varies from one web master to another. So if I were to give out a number or suggestion it will seem illogical.

What most web masters will do is wait till their site have at least 30 to 50 pages worth of valuable content. It is advantageous to you to have some good valuable content to offer your visitors when they arrive. There has been sites that are new that have been visited by sites with page ranks of 5 or above, and have linked to these new sites because they offer value to their readers.

If there is a site with a pagerank of 5 linking back to your site, you’ll get indexed by Google in less than 2 to 3 days. The higher the pagerank the sooner your pages gets indexed. Now it is possible for a site with a page rank of 7 or 8 to link back to your site, but you have to offer some pretty valuable content, that supersedes their own.

That is why you should have some good amount of pages ready not only for your human visitors but also for the search engine crawlers.

How To Structure Your Site Navigation

Before we talk about the different location that you should place your navigation lets talk of simplicity. Your website navigation must be as simple and clean as much as possible. Depending on your web site template layout, the three most common areas to place your navigation will be at the top, left and right section of the design.

If your website template is a blog design, then the most common place for navigation will be towards the right side of the template. For those who are planning to use a three column web layout, with sidebars in the left and right side of the body text, make sure to place your navigation in the left column sidebar. You can use the right column sidebar for social networking icons, RSS links, and ads.

Writing Your Content: Practice Make Perfect.

If I knew about this strategy I would not have spent and lost so much money. The main key to becoming a better content writer is persistence. The more you write articles and blog post the better you become. If you consistently write on your blog or website, you will soon realize how easy it will be generate and come up with new content.

Read a lot of other articles and post written by authors relevant to your site concept. See what everyone is talking about and write about it in your site. You don’t have to write a similar article, but you can write a review or add on note, who knows they might have left some details out.

For content ideas look in forums, twitter, facebook and other social networking sites, you will be surprise how much content pages I have written just by reading what people are tweeting about. Be creative and make sure to write as if you’re talking to an individual not a group. Readers love to read post that they feel were written just for them personally.

When Should You Monetize Your Website?

Making money with your website is the goal of most web masters, but this is something that you must pay extra attention to. Most people get to greedy when it comes to trying to make money with their site. One of the worst things you can do is cover your site with google adsense and affiliate products.

ADS ARE NOT CONTENT!!! Websites that are cluttered with ads of all sizes, banners and affiliate links do not rank in the search engines because as I mentioned earlier, there not content. Do not get greedy and try to cover your entire web real estate with useless graphics.

The best time for any site to monetize is when you have a good amount of visitors coming in daily. The only way that you will start making some serious revenue is when you earn the trust of your visitors, and the only way to do that is to provide valuable content.

Once you have gained the respect and trust of your visitors, making money online will be a breeze. Keep in mind that it takes time to build rapport with your visitors, and may even take longer to make your first sale, so be patient.
